Facts & Statistics:<\/b><\/p>\n

  • 22% of students aged 12 – 18 nationwide experience in-person bullying.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • 37% of students aged 12 – 18 nationwide experience online bullying, often if you\u2019re being bullied in-person you\u2019re also being bullied online.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • More than half of children being bullied don\u2019t report it.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • The most commonly reported type of bullying is verbal harassment (79%), followed by social harassment (50%), physical bullying (29%), and cyberbullying (25%).<\/span><\/li>\n
  • More than half of bullying situations (57%) stop when a peer intervenes on behalf of the student being bullied.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • 6th grade students experience the most bullying (31%).<\/span><\/li>\n
  • 70% of school staff have seen bullying. 62% witnessed bullying two or more times in the last month, and 41% witness bullying once a week or more.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Over half of students ages 12-18 who reported being bullied believed their bullies had the ability to influence what other students thought of them.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • 40% of students aged 12 – 17 experiencing mental health difficulties who had heard harmful words and negative stereotypes say it stopped them seeking help.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • For adolescents, depression, substance use and suicide are important concerns. Among adolescents aged 12-17 years in 2018-2019 reporting on the past year:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      • 15.1% had a major depressive episode.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • 36.7% had persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • 4.1% had a substance use disorder.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • 1.6% had an alcohol use disorder.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • 3.2% had an illicit drug use disorder.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • 18.8% seriously considered attempting suicide.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • 15.7% made a suicide plan.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • 8.9% attempted suicide.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • 2.5% made a suicide attempt requiring medical treatment.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
